Nigeria has secured two more slots in the wrestling event for 2016 Rio Olympics following the successes of Amas Daniel 65kg and Soso Tamarau 97kg who both won gold medals on Sunday at the Africa-Oceania Olympic qualifying tournament.
Four female wrestlers had on Saturday booked their places in Rio before the duo of Amas and Soso capped a wonderful outing for Nigeria at the qualifying event with their gold medal winning performances.
In all, nine wrestlers represented Nigeria at the Africa-Oceania Olympic qualifying tournament event in Algiers, Algeria. They won four gold, two silver and two bronze medals, thus qualifying six wrestlers for the Rio 2016 Olympics.
With the mission now accomplished, President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Igali, said they will be going back to the drawing board to plan for the next three months to have a good show at the Olympics.
