With the aid of a sports wear company, Hummel, Afghanistan’s female football team have taken delivery of the first set of jerseys with in-built hijabs.
The record-breaking kit was unveiled on International Women’s Day as the first ever branded national strip to incorporate a hijab.
Daily Star UK quoted Hummel’s owner Christian Stadil as saying, “We don’t sponsor the biggest teams in the world, but we make partnerships with teams and clubs with a story to tell, like Afghanistan.
“We try to meet the Afghan people where they are, and right now that is by helping the women play football with or without a hijab.”
