Tosin Oke has increased Team Nigeria’s gold medal haul at the ongoing All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville as he finished tops in the men’s Triple Jump event on Monday.
Oke had before now threatened to boycott the games but later agreed to attend the event, to defend the title he won four years ago Maputo.
The London-based athlete recorded a jump of 17.00m on Monday to claim gold thus improving on his 16.65m jump which fetched him gold four years ago.
Oke finished amongst the top eight jumpers at the recently held World Championships in Beijing and would now be hoping for a great show at the Rio Olympics next year.
Interestingly, it was another Nigerian Olumide Olamigoke that claimed the silver medal in the men’s triple jump event.
Meanwhile it was not the same story in the women’s high jump event where Doreen Amata could not successfully defend her African title and had to settle for silver medal behind Lissa Labiche who scooped gold after scaling a height of 1.95m.
In some other athletics event also concluded on Monday, Nigeria’s Tyron Akins finished third in the men’s 110 Hurdles event while the country’s representatives in Hammer throw for women finished outside the medal region.
