Nigeria Women Basketball: FCT Angels defeat Nasarawa Amazons

FCT Angels basketball team of Abuja won their opening game as the 11th Zenith Bank National Basketball Female Basketball League got underway by beating Nasarawa Amazons of Lafia 63-37.

The league, which is a nine-day event, is holding from April 25 to May 3.

It is taking place at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Abuja National Stadium, and is being organised by the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF.

In the game played as one of Day One matches on Saturday, the FCT Angels took control of the game by leading in all the quarters.

At the end of the match, Emmanuel Odah, the coach of the FCT Angels, said he was happy they won the game as it would help to ginger them into finishing well.

“This is a good beginning. I am really surprised with the outcome of the game because this team is a new set of players,

“We lost 17 players last year. They all went for greener pastures. But these girls here now are secondary school girls. We just recruited them.

“Now, we have started well, and we will equally end well. I am sure my girls will make me proud.

“Our team is fully back on its feet now, and I believe we will win our remaining games,” he said.

On his part, Mustapha Dogo, the coach of Nasarawa Amazons, said it was a good game for his team even though they lost.

“The game was good. My players are playing such kind of indoor match for the very first time.

“But I have seen a lot of lapses in our game, and I need to work on them before our next game. We will fight hard to win,” he said.

In some of the other games of the day, Zamfara Babes of Gusau defeated Coal City Angels of Enugu 40-39.
