Nigeria/Venezuela basketball novelty match cancelled – NBBF President

The game was to commemorate Afro-Venezuela Day.

The proposed novelty basketball match between Nigeria and Venezuela might not hold again.

An official of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, made this known on Tuesday.

The NBBF President, Tijani Umar, told journalists in Ilorin that the match was to be organised by the federation on behalf of the Venezuelan Embassy in Nigeria. He noted that the match could not take place again because of time constraint.

According to Mr. Umar, the match, which had been scheduled for May 10, was to commemorate Afro-Venezuela Day in remembrance of the country’s late President, Hugo Chavez.

He said the game was not a friendly match between the two countries as presumed by many, but a mere novelty match.
