Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo, is going out on loan from Chelsea to La Liga side CD Leganes for the 2018/18 season.
New manager, Maurizio Sarri, has deemed the 24-year-old centre back surplus to requirements and he will thus embark on a season-loan to Spain for the sixth time since he joined Chelsea from Standard Liege in 2012.
Omeruo played for the Super Eagles at Russia 2018 and enjoyed some good reviews, especially for his performance in the second group game against Iceland, where his clearance turned into an assist for Ahmed Musa’s second goal. Chelsea FC even commended the performance by writing on Twitter, “What a performance from @omeruo22! #NGAISL”.
The club said in their official statement, “The 24-year-old central defender, who can also play at right-back, moved to Stamford Bridge from Standard Liege in 2012.
“Omeruo spent last season on loan at Turkish side Kasimpasa, where he made 28 appearances and was named in the Nigeria squad for this summer’s World Cup.
“He started two matches during the tournament, against Iceland and Argentina, and will now join La Liga side Leganes, who are managed by former Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino.”
Omeruo’s contract with Chelsea expires in the summer of 2019.
