Spain had to fight to get a 2-2 draw and Portugal were almost sent packing by a fighting Iranian side who threw the kitchen sink and everything at them with Cristiano Ronaldo missing a penalty.
At the very end, it was late goals that highlighted Group B at Russia 2018. A late concession against Iran saw Morocco lose 1-0 when they had all the possession and another 92nd minute concession against Spain meant they leave Russia, but with their heads held high.
Morocco scored twice and led twice through Khalid Boutaib and Youssef En-Nesyri but Spain fought back and got their goals through Isco in the 19th minute and Iago Aspas in the second minute of added-on time. The referee had called Aspas for an offside but on VAR review, the goal was given.
There was also drama at the Mordovia Arena when Iran got back on level terms with Portugal, albeit through a controversial penalty, scored by Karim Ansarifard.
Mehdi Taremi had a wonderful chance to write an Iranian wonder script in the fourth minute of added time; but he somehow managed to find the side netting instead of past Rui Patricio.
Until the last minute, Group B delivered drama after drama. Spain came tops on goals scored and will meet Russia in the Round of 16, while Portugal will face an obdurate Uruguay.
