The Nigeria U20 team, the Flying Eagles blew away a two-goal lead to settle for a 2-2 draw against Guinea Bissau on Saturday in the first leg of their 2019 U20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The first leg second round qualifying fixture took place at the September 24 Stadium in Bissau.
The Nigeria U20s were initially cruising as they raced to a two-goal lead in the early exchanges.
Forward, Wasiu Alalade netted a brace in the first half.
However, Guinea Bissau ended strongly and will take great encouragement from their second-half showing which saw them draw the tie with two goals of their own inside six minutes.
Saturday’s outcome now makes the second leg delicately poised even though the Flying Eagles have the advantage of not losing away from home and getting two important away goals.
The second leg comes up next weekend at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar.
Nigeria failed to qualify for the last edition of U-20 AFCON having being edged out by Sudan and would not want the same to happen this term.
