Former Nigeria League champions, Kano Pillars, will on Tuesday unveil their new coach ahead of the 2016/17 League season on Tuesday.
The new handler for the Pyramid Boys is veteran Coach Kadiri Ikhana, who is making a third comeback to the club since helping them to clinch their first-ever Nigerian league title eight years ago.
Ikhana is replacing Coach Mohammed Babaganaru who threw in the towel on the last day of action in the 2016/17 League season.
In a interview with PREMIUM TIMES, the media officer for Kano Pillars, Idris Malikawa, said Ikhana emerged as the best choice from the number of coaches grilled for the job.
“Yes, it is true we have reappointed Kadiri Ikhana after he impressed the new Kano Pillars management board,” Malikawa said. “We shall be unveiling him on Tuesday by noon.”
Having finished in a disappointing seventh position last season, Pillars are hoping that Ikhana can reignite his 2008 magic.
“This is the third time we will be having Ikhana as the coach and we are very confident he will bring back the good times, we know where we truly belong and we will be there next season Insha Allah,” the Pillars spokesperson added.
There have been a number of cross-carpeting of coaches among the Nigeria Premier League teams this off-season.
Amongst others, Coach Babaganaru, who was with Pillars last season, has moved to Wikki Tourists, while erstwhile Wikki Coach Abdu Maikaba has made a switch to join Akwa United.
Abia Warriors have hired Okey Emordi to lead them next season while Plateau United have engaged the services of Kennedy Boboye.
