Manchester City finally got their pound of flesh off Barcelona as they beat the Catalan giants 3-1 on Tuesday night in the UEFA Champions League.
IIkay Gundogan was the hero for City as he scored a brace that saw Pep Guardiola’s men romp to a comfortable win against in-form Barcelona at the Etihad stadium.
The Citizens had lost heavily at the Nou Camp 4-0 and the Catalan giants came into the fixture full of confidence and took the lead through Lionel Messi. But a goal in either side of the half by Gundogan and a well struck free kick from Kevin de Bruyne ensured the victory.
Nigeria’s Kelechi Iheanacho watched all 90 minutes from the bench as his teammates got the job done.
Elsewhere, Nigerian youngster, Alex Iwobi, was given a cameo role as Arsenal came from behind to win in Bulgaria.
Mesut Ozil struck a late winner as the Gunners came from behind to secure a 3-2 win over Ludogorets at the Stadion Vasil Levski.
Also, a brace from Robert Lewandowski on Tuesday night helped Bayern Munich secure a place in the knock-out phase of the UEFA Champions League.
The Polish striker first cancelled out PSV’s opening goal scored by S.Arias in the 14th minute before netting the all important winner in the second half to give Bayern Munich a hard-earned 2-1 win over the Dutch giants.
With the win, Bayern Munich now have nine points from four games and neither PSV nor FC Rostov can catch up with them.
In the other Group D game, Atletico Madrid’s perfect run was halted as they were forced to a 1-1 draw by FC Rostov.
Despite dropping points, the Spanish team are still top with 10 points from 4 games and are also through to the Round of 16.
