Reigning Nigeria League Champions, Enyimba, kept their faint title defence hopes alive by defeating Wikki Tourists 2-1 on Wednesday in a rescheduled league game.
The Peoples’ Elephant knew only victory could see them keep pace with teams ahead of them in running for the league shield.
The seven-time league champions delivered even if it was by the slimmest of margins.
Enyimba had to dig deep for Wednesday’s win as they had to come from behind to secure the vital victory.
It was Wikki that took the lead three minutes before the end of the first half through Godwin Obaje, who headed home a cross from Ibrahim Alhassan.
The goal by Obaje is his 18th of the season as he stays top of the goals’ scorer chart.
However, Enyimba drew level before the break through Nzube Anaezemba before the midfielder shot his side front in the 50th minute to complete his brace.
Wikki won the reverse fixture 3-1 in Bauchi; hence Enyimba will be proud to gain their pound of flesh.
Enyimba at the moment are sixth on the table with 49 points, five points behind leaders Enugu Rangers but with an outstanding game.
Also on Wednesday, there was another rescheduled game between Abia Warriors and FC Ifeanyi Ubah.
The match ended in a stalemate as both teams settled for a 1-1 score line.
With this result, FC Ifeanyi Ubah moved to fourth on the table while Abia Warriors stay in the relegation zone.
