Shooting Stars of Ibadan paid Kano Pillars back in their own coins on Sunday as they thrashed the former champions 4-0 in one of Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League games.
The Ibadan team were roundly beaten 6-0 when they visited Kano for the reverse fixture and they came all out to avenge that defeat on Sunday.
Ajani Ibrahim and Ifegwu Ojukwu got the first two goals for Shooting Stars on Sunday.
Sunday Adetunji added two more in the second half as the striker took his season’s tally to 10 goals.
With the big win over Pillars, Shooting Stars have now garnered 44 points from 32 matches, a point behind Pillars.
Elsewhere, title contenders, Wikki Tourists, and Enugu Rangers both lost 1-0 to FC Ifeanyi Ubah and Nasarawa United, respectively.
Also, Rivers United moved into second place on the table with 53 points after a 2-0 home win over Plateau United, while IfeanyiUbah are now third with 52 points.
In Lagos, the relegation battle between MFM FC and Abia Warriors was hampered due to heavy rain as the pitch at the Agege Stadium was rendered unplayable due to the downpour.
The match will now be played by 8 a.m. Monday at the same venue.
