Some members of the Akwa United FC Supporters’ Club were on Saturday involved in a car accident along Ekparakwa-Ikot Abasi Road, Akwa Ibom State.
No life was lost. But many people inside the crashed vehicle were said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries.
A witness told PREMIUM TIMES that the bus driver was on top speed when he lost control of the vehicle which veered off the highway, and rammed into a near-by building, at about 12:30 p.m.
The club supporters were on their way from Uyo to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for a match with Enyimba FC.
Akwa United footballers were already in Port Harcourt ahead of the match, before the road accident.
The injured passengers were rushed to a private hospital in Uyo where they are receiving treatment.
The Public Relations Officer of Akwa United, Uwem Ekoh, couldn’t be reached for comment as at the time of publishing this report.
