Enyimba ended their continental adventure as they beat Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 in the CAF Champions League to pick their first points of the group stage.
A goal from Uche John and a brace from Mfon Udoh ensured that the people’s elephant ended their campaign on a high.
Despite the defeat, the Brazilians, as Sundowns are also called, have advanced to the semifinals as group winners and will face either Wydad Casablanca or Zesco United over two-legs for a place in the final.
The hosts proved to be the superior side during the opening exchanges, and after a sustained spell of pressure, opened the scoring in the 25th minute from a John free kick.
The South Africans however levelled the game nine minutes later through Percy Tau on the counter attack.
Shortly before half time, Mfon Udoh pounced on a loose ball and slotted it past Wayne Sandilands to score his eighth goal of the campaign.
He scored his ninth goal five minutes into the start of the second half from the penalty spot.
Themba Zwane had a golden chance to pull a goal back for the Brazilians in the 58th minute, but the midfielder sliced his effort wide.
Enyimba should have put the game beyond any reasonable doubt in the 80th minute but Etor Daniel decided to pass the ball instead of just rolling it into the back of the empty net.
The game failed to cough up any goal scoring chances in the final minutes as the host secured their first points of the campaign.
