A bomb scare at Old Trafford, home ground of English Premier League club, Manchester United, has resulted in the quick evacuation of fans from the stadium.
The Red Devils were billed to play AFC Bournemouth in their last game of the season. But the discovery of a package, suspected to be a bomb, in one of the stands forced the game to be abandoned.
“Kick-off is delayed at Old Trafford after a suspect package was found in the North West Quadrant. Police are inspecting, more to follow,” a tweet from the official twitter handle of Manchester United read.
An update from the twitter handle said the game has been abandoned on Police advise.
“Due to the discovery of a suspect package in the NW Quadrant of the ground, the match has been abandoned today on police advice” the tweet read.
Stadiums are beginning to be soft target in Europe as many recount the blast which occurred just outside the stadium during a France vs. Germany match earlier in the year.
After succumbing to a late 3-2 defeat at Upton Park on Tuesday, United missed the chance to head into the last match of the campaign in fourth position.
Van Gaal’s side were hoping to right their wrong on Sunday even as they are reliant on Swansea City inflicting defeat on arch-rivals Manchester City in order to have a chance to participate in UEFA Champions League next season.
