Luis Suarez netted a hat-trick on Saturday as Barcelona got the desired 0-3 win over Granada to successfully defend their La Liga title albeit in a frenzy note.
Barcelona had just a point advantage over their closest rival, Real Madrid, going into the final day of action and they were aware that nothing short of victory will help them claim a 24th La Liga title.
Interestingly, it was Real Madrid that started in front in Saturday’s league decider with Cristiano Ronaldo opening scoring against Deportivo La Coruna while Barcelona were yet to score.
However, Luis Suarez who also finished as the League’s top scorer, responded, scoring three goals that made lightweight the result of the Real Madrid game. Real did their bit winning away 2-0,with Ronaldo getting the two goals.
Before finally finding their grove, Barcelona lost three successive La Liga games in April to throw the title race wide open and despite Real Madrid winning their last 12 games of the season, it was the Catalan outfit that secured the crown once again.
Barcelona snapped the title by one point; amassing a total of 91 while second-place Real Madrid had 90 points.
Barcelona will go in search of a domestic double when they face Sevilla in the Copa del Rey final next weekend while for Real Madrid, they have their eyes on the Champions League final where they will meet city rivals; Atletico Madrid in the Milan finals.
