UEFA Champions League: Iheanacho gets chance against Real Madrid

Nigerian youngster, Kelechi Iheanacho, got his wish to play against Spanish giants, Real Madrid, on Tuesday night but he could not salvage the day as Manchester could only manage a barren draw against their opponent at the Etihad Stadium.

Iheanacho came in as an emergency replacement for David Silva who limped off the pitch in the 38th minute after he copped an injury in the first leg semi-final clash after his late challenge on Gareth Bale.

Hard as the Nigerian youngster tried, he was unable to replicate his goal scoring performance for the Citizens that have reached this stage of this competition for the first time in their history and it is actually their first European semi-final of any kind since 1971, when they faced Schalke 04 in the European Cup Winners’ Cup.

The build-up to Tuesday’s game was overshadowed by the news that Cristiano Ronaldo will not be available to add to his 16 goals tally in the Champions League.

With no goals from the Etihad despite the late attempts from both teams, attention will shift to the Santiago Bernabeau to see who will make the Milan finals next month.

With Tuesday’s performance, Madrid have now kept nine clean sheets in their last 11 champions league games and look like the favourite for the finals.
