The national Under-23 male football team, the Dream Team VI, will open camp on Sunday in preparation for the Rio 2016 Olympics, Samson Siasia, the team’s Head Coach, has said.

Siasia told journalists on Friday in Abuja that the camp would open with invited home-based players, following the approval of his programme by the Nigeria Football Federation Technical Committee.

He said the foreign-based players would join later.

“We are trying to start our camp, because the Technical Committee has approved it. So, by Sunday, the boys will be back to camp and we will start preparing.

“We have been sending letters to the invited players and hopefully we can start with the domestic players and later the foreign-based players will join us,’’ Siasia said.

He said the essence of early camping was to ensure Nigeria excel at the Olympics, where he had in 2008 at Beijing led the team to a silver medal.

Siasia’s team lost 1-2 to Argentina in the final of that competition.

The 2016 Olympic Games is scheduled to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from Aug. 5 to Aug. 21.(NAN)
