The home-based Eagles have been handed some sort of extra reward for their 4-1 win over Niger in their first match of the ongoing African Nations Championships, CHAN.
PREMIUM TIMES learnt that the team received a donation of $10,000 from the League Management Company boss, Shehu Dikko, who praised the squad for being good ambassadors of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The LMC boss, who also doubles as the second vice president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), made the cash presentation to the team at a dinner organised by the Nigerian High Commission in Rwanda.
“The LMC, club owners and all the stakeholders of the league appreciate your excellent display tonight (Monday), we are proud of the team. You guys have been good ambassadors of the league and I have been mandated to present this cash as reward for your hard work,” Dikko said.
Having excelled against Niger, the Super Eagles B team will be keen to keep their momentum in their next match, which will be against Tunisia on Friday.
Guinea and Niger Republic, the other two teams in Group C, will also battle it out on Friday to help boost their chances of reaching the next round of the tournament.
All the 23 players in the Nigerian team are selected from Nigeria’s top flight, the NPFL which is organised by the LMC.
