The home-based Eagles team on Tuesday gave a glimpse of what to expect from them at the African Nations Championships, CHAN, as they whipped South Africa Premier League side, Amatuks, 3-0 at their Pretoria training camp.
Though the PSL side was not initially in the itinerary for the Eagles, Coach Sunday Oliseh and the rest of the Nigeria coaching crew accepted the challenge from the South African club and they did not disappoint as they roundly beat the Amatuks, also known as University of Pretoria FC.
A brace from Tunde Adeniji and another goal form Ifeanyi Matthew saw the Super Eagles B team cruising to victory in South Africa’s legislative capital.
Sunshine Stars’ forward, Adeniji, gave Nigeria the opening goal in the 25th minute when he earned a penalty kick after he was pulled down inside the goal area and he dusted himself up to bury the ball in the net.
In the second half, Adeniji fired in the second of the day from nearly 30 yards out while former junior international, Mathew, netted the third to rattle their hard tackling hosts.
Having recorded this impressive win, the Eagles will hope to catch their breath fast enough for the crunch clash against Angola on Wednesday.
The Nigeria squad will later square up with fellow CHAN bound team, Cote d’Ivoire on Monday, January 11.
After the test matches, the Super Eagles B team are expected to depart South Africa for Kigali, Rwanda on January 15.
