Nigeria international, John Obi Mikel, was not only in action from start to finish but turned out to be one of the star performers as his London club, Chelsea, returned to winning ways; beating Crystal Place 0-3 at Selhurst Park on Sunday.
Mikel had 96% pass accuracy, won three tackles, had two blocks and one interception to finish as one of Chelsea’s outstanding players.
Sunday’s win was the first for returnee Dutch Coach Guus Hiddink who has guided the Blues to back-to-back draws before now.
The Blues went into Sunday’s match on a seven-game winless streak on the road and it was understandable as Hiddink was desperate for victory.
Fortunately, his team showed great improvement on Sunday as they handed Alan Pardew’s side one of their biggest defeats at home in recent times.
Brazilian star, Oscar, who fluffed the chance for a Chelsea win last time out against Watford got the opening goal in Sunday’s early kickoff as he netted just before the half- hour mark.
The duo of Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa were instrumental in getting the opening goal.
As expected, the hosts mounted a fierce challenge for an equalizer but their efforts failed to yield any result, instead it was Chelsea that doubled their lead through another Brazilian, this time Willian.
Palace coffin was literally nailed when returning Costa tucked in the third goal to put Chelsea in the driver’s seat.
The result sees Chelsea climb up to 14th in the table, now six points off the top half, while Palace remain seventh.
