Baba Idris, captain of Nigeria Premier League side, Nasarawa United, is dead, his Lafia-based club revealed.
Baba’s death was announced to journalists by the Nasarawa United team manager, Solomon Babanjah, who said late Monday that the player died after a brief illness.
The late central defender played a key role as Nasarawa United secured a slot to play in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
Sadly, there will be no Baba Idris when Nasarawa United square up against Generation Foot from Senegal in the preliminary round of next year’s CAF Confederation Cup.
The winners between Nasarawa United and Generation Foot will take on the winners between CS Constantinois of Algeria.
Those matches are billed for between March 11 and 20, 2016
Though in mourning mood presently, Nasarwa United had a good 2014/15 season, in which they re-wrote the history books, ending Kano Pillars 12-year unbeaten home run also doing same against Sunshine Stars who before were also invincible on their home ground.
