Seattle Sounders of USA striker, Obafemi Martins, on Wednesday in Lagos showed his goal scoring prowess as he scored three goals in a friendly match played between an All-Star Euro selected team and the Westerloo Football Academy.
The exhibition game which has been a regular feature for the past nine years, was organised by a former Super Eagles goal keeper, Dosu Joseph, and as always, it had a gathering of Nigerian football stars scattered across the globe in attendance.
Incidentally, it was Martins who was just making his first appearance in the eagerly-anticipated end-of-year friendly that stole the show with his three master class goals which saw the Euro-stars forcing out a 3-3 draw against the Westerloo Football Academy before going on to win on penalty kicks
Martins, who came on for Michael Babatunde at half-time, gave a perfect strike from the edge of the box eight minutes after coming on.
He doubled his tally five minutes later with a brilliant over-head kick before capping his brilliant display by curling in a free-kick from the edge of the box to send the fans into wide jubilation.
The 31-year-old, who was rightly adjudged as Man-of-the-match, told reporters after the game that he was delighted to have thrilled the fans.
“I’m happy to be here and also to have scored today. Scoring goals is part of me and I’m happy the fans had a great time,” he said.
Aside Martins, the likes of Michael Odibe, Taye Taiwo, Babatunde Michael and Golden Eaglets star, Funsho Bamgbgoye, among others, all put up a highly-commendable display which won them applause from the vociferous fans all present to watch their football idols live in action.
