The Nigeria U-23 team will be locked in a fierce battle against Senegal in the first semi-final tie of the ongoing Africa U-23 Championships, as both teams fight for a ticket to the 2016 Rio Olympics.
A shaky win in their first outing against Mali and then back-to-back draws against the North African duo of Egypt and Algeria means Nigeria is very much in the race for one of the automatic tickets seeded for Africa to compete in the men’s football event in next year’s Olympic Games.
However, Senegal are the favourites coming into Wednesday’s contest, rightly because of their flawless performance in the group phase and also the home advantage they enjoy.
Coach Samson Siasia has been forced to make some changes in his team owing to card and injury issues.
The coach is replacing suspended skipper Azubuike Okechukwu with Godspower Aniefiok.
Wednesday’s clash is taking place at the Stade Leopold Sedar Senghor, where Siasia scored Nigeria’s first goal in a 2-1 defeat of host Senegal in the opening match of the 1992 Africa Cup of Nations.
Will Nigeria win again today and seal their place at next year’s Olympics?
Nigeria Starting XI
Emmanuel Daniel, Effiong Ndifreke, Sincere Seth, Chizoba Amaefule, Segun Oduduwa, Usman Muhammed, Godspower, Tiongoli Tombara, Ogehnekaro Etebo, Junior Ajayi, Kufre Ebong.
