Siasia invites Awoniyi, Iheanacho for Olympic Qualifiers

The Nigeria National U-23 Head Coach, Samson Siasia, on Friday included the foreign-based trio of Kelechi Iheanacho,Taiwo Awoniyi and Moses Simon in a 51-man squad for the Africa U-23 cup of nations starting next month in Senegal.

The three teenage young stars were listed alongside 13 other foreign based players as Coach Siasia has decided to extend his dragnet to get a rich squad to participate in the upcoming U-23 Africa cup of Nations in Senegal which will be serving as the Olympic qualifier for the continent.

Aside the earlier mentioned trio, others expected to participate in the tournament in Senegal include Azubuike Okechukwu, Junior Ajayi, Wilfred Ndidi, Isaac success, Shehu Abdullahi, Alex Iwobi, kingsley Madu, Paul onuachu, Stanley Amuzie, and goalkeeper Dele Alampasu.

For now, it is not certain if the Nigeria Football Federation would be able to secure the release of all the foreign-based players from their various club sides across Europe during the period of the tournament as the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations is not listed on the FIFA calendar.

On the side, the U23 head coach has also called up 36 home based players from top clubs across the nation.

The Africa U-23 cup of nation will kick off on November 28 in Senegal and end on December 12.
