The news trending is definitely the feat of 18-year-old Kelechi Iheanacho, who scored a winning goal for Manchester City at the weekend after replacing Wifried Bony. However, there were other Nigerians who scored also as the teething 2015/16 European season started gathering momentum.
Kelechi Iheanacho stole all the headlines in the EPL last weekend as he came on with a minute left on the clock to a stubborn Crystal Palace side on Saturday and scored with almost his first touch, latching on to a rebound off a Samir Nasri shot in the 89th minute. Manchester City thus remain perfect in the EPL after five games, five wins with 11 goals scored and none conceded.

Odion Ighalo celebrated his new four-year contract with the goal that gave Watford their first win of the season as they also kept a clean sheet for the third clean sheet in the Premiership.
Ighalo, who was snubbed by Sunday Oliseh in the last two Super Eagles games, got the only goal in the 59th minute off an assist by Troy Deeney, and it was enough for the newly promoted side to take all three points and leap to 13th place on the league table. Steven Berghuis replaced the Nigerian on 71 minutes. Ighalo has scored 20 goals in 30 matches, in all competitions in 2015.

Mikel Obi started his first match for Chelsea this season as they lost 3-1 to Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday. The Blues have made a terrible start to the season and have now lost three of five league games, three months after strolling to the title. Mikel gave the assist for Nemanja Matic to get the defending champions back into the game but Steven Naismith would not be denied as he scored the third, and his hatch eight minutes from the end.

Stoke City’s bad start to the season continue
d on Saturday as the Potters lost 2-0 at the Emirates. Osaze Odemwingie is still short of fitness as he just returned to full training last week.
Dele Alli started for Tottenham away to Sunderland on Sunday and helped his side to a 1-0 victory – their first win of the season. The young Anglo-Nigerian midfielder was taken off in the 67th minute.
Vincent Enyeama returned to action after missing two games for Nigeria because of the death of his mother. And he was made to work very hard to preserve a fourth clean sheet of the season for his side.
As the rains poured down, Lyon became more desperate and pressed for the opener but Enyeama stood firm. With six minutes left on the clock, Mathieu Valbuena must have thought he had finally broken the deadlock and then Enyeama pawed away Yanga-Mbiwa’s header.
Elderson Echiejile continued as the left back for Monaco away to GFC Ajaccio as they won 1-0 even though they would count themselves very lucky to have escaped a beating from the newly promoted side. It was a welcome three points as it marked Monaco’s first win in four matches and they are up to eighth on the table.
Anthony Ujah scored his second goal in the Bundesliga as Werder Bremen went away to Hoffenheim on Sunday. It was looking like a 1-1 result until the Nigerian popped up in the 90th minute to score the second goal. Bremen then added a third in added time to make it a resounding 3-1 win. That win t
ook them to sixth on the table with seven points. Ujah inadvertently turned the ball into Juanovic’s path for the first goal and he scored the second with an unerring finish.
Leon Balogun started for Mainz away to Schalke on Sunday after he was unable to feature for the Super Eagles against Tanzania and Niger with an injured ankle. The defender was unable to help his side hold on as they were beaten 2-1. Balogun made five clearances and two interceptions against Schalke.
Jerry Mbakogu played for the first time this season and Carpi won their first point ever in the Serie A. Their third game in the new season was away at Palermo and they scored first on 23 minutes as Mbakogu’s cross was diverted into the Palermo net by their defender, Roberto Vitiello. The newly promoted side were leading 2-1 until the 88th minute before Uros Djurdjevic equalised. Mbakogu was substituted in the 62nd minute by Marco Borrielo, who scored Carpi’s second goal on 64 minutes.
Joel Obi started his first match for Torino after his move from Inter Milan and he played for 51 minutes in their 2-2 draw away to Verona. The Super Eagles midfielder was replaced by Afriye Acquah, who scored Torino’s equaliser in the 71st minute. Acquah ran all the way to the bench to celebrate his goal with the Nigeria, whom he replaced.
Ogenyi Onazi continued on the bench for all 90 minutes and he is yet to play a minute for the team in Serie A this season though Lazio came back to winning ways with a comfortable 2-0 win over Udinese.
Isaac Success started and played all 90 minutes as Granada lost their second league game at home to Villarreal. The U-20 striker scored in his team’s last match but he was not able to add to his tally in the 3-1 defeat.
Joseph Akpala and KV Oostende are flying high in the league. They went top of the table with a 5-1 away win over Waasland Beveren and Akpala scored the first goal of the game in the 15th minute. It was the former Super Eagles’ striker’s third goal in the seven-week old league. Another Nigerian, Saviour Godwin, who shone for the Flying Eagles in the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup, came on in the 83rd minute and added the fifth goal four minutes afterwards. But the hero of the day was Cote d’Ivoire striker, Gohi Bi Zoro Cyriac, who scored three goals.

Nigeria U-20 defender, Onyinye Ndidi, played for 90 minutes as Gent went away and held Anderlecht to a 0-0 result. It was the defender’s fifth league game of the new season.
Imoh Ezekiel again started on the bench as Anderlecht could not find a way past a plucky Gent side. The Nigerian is still looking to break his duck in the league after he got a loan move from his Qatari club.
Gent were forced to a fourth draw in six league matches on Saturday when they were held to a 0- score line by Zulte-Waregem. New Super Eagles scorer, Moses Simon, was on the pitch for 58 minutes before he was replaced by Brecht Dejaeghere. The 20-year-old winger has played all seven league matches – but he is yet to play a full game for the defending champions.
It was another 1-0 loss for Kasimpasa following on from their 1-0 away loss to Genclerbirligi as Kenneth Omeruo played all 90 minutes though his side had to battle for the last 13 minutes against Fenerbahce, who by virtue of the win went top of the league table.
Samuel Eto’o was the player that did the damage to Raheem Lawal’s Eskişehirspor last Saturday, notching both goals for Antalyaspor in a 2-0 win. Lawal was withdrawn in the 69th minute.
John Chibuike was on the pitch for all 90 minutes and he helped his side to a precious point away to Akhisar Belediyespor on Saturday. Gaziantepspor were without their other Nigerian, Gbenga Arokoyo, who was not listed at all.
Godfrey Oboabona played all 90 minutes and helped his side to a share of the spoils on Sunday as Rizespor drew 1-1 at home to Sivasspor. The defender had to battle hard as his side played over 25 minutes of the second goal a man down after Ludovic Sylvestre was shown a straight red card in the 65th minute. Rizespor are seventh on the table with six points.
CSKA Moscow’s perfect start to the season was ended on Saturday as Zenit forced the league leaders to a 2-2 draw. Ahmed Musa played all 90 minutes of the encounter but he could not add to his three league goals.
Rabiu Ibrahim seems to have gotten his career back on track as he followed up playing for the Super Eagles against Niger by scoring his first league goal in eight league games for AS Trencin in their 5-3 win over Spartak Trnava. Ibrahim scored his side’s third goal in the 39th minute and was yellow carded on 71 minutes. His compatriot, Kingsley Madu also played and they both featured for all 90 minutes. At the end of the encounter, there were three Nigerians featuring for Trencin as 18-year-old Aliko Bala joined the fray in the 88th minute, replacing Gino Van Kessel.
Fred Friday was on from the start this time after coming off the bench in Lillestrom’s last game. Friday scored in the third goal in their 3-1 win over Aalesund. The 20-year-old forward has now scored seven goals in the 23-week old league and his team lie in ninth position with 31 points, 24 off leaders, Rosenborg. Leke James scored Aalesund’s consolation goal from the penalty spot one minute from time and the 22-year-old has now scored nine goals in 22 league games.
Emmanuel Emenike scored his first goals in the league for new side, Al Ain as they beat Al Wasl 2-0 away to maintain their perfect start to the season. Emenike, on loan from Fenerbahce cut a dismal figure for the Super Eagles in the two games played last week but the two goals should have restored some of his confidence. The first was a near post finish but the second was reminiscent of his power as he turned and shot from the edge of the box.
The Nigerian was brought in to replace the prolific Asamoah Gyan, also scored twice in a 4-2 win over Al Nasr in the Super Cup in August.
