NPFL Week 23 Preview | Shooting Stars visit Kano Pillars seeking an upset

Kano Pillars are on an impressive run after the return of Baba Ganaru to their dugout and this return has seen an upturn in form with seven points in their last three matches but their opponents, also under a new manager, won their first away match in five years on Monday when they beat Heartland FC 3-1, a match that was played over two days.

Will Gbenga Ogunbote be able to provide another shocker against the defending champions, who have not lost at home in the league in over 200 matches? That question will be answered on Sunday at the Kano Pillars Stadium.

Before the trip to Rojenny, Ogunbote had stated that with improved officiating, winning on the road was now a prospect to dream of.

“It’s important to get something positive from the two games to improve our position on the table,” he told Complete Sports.

“The good thing is that the quality of officiating in the league now is better than what it used to be, so we are confident that if we play well, we will come out with positive results.”

And play well they did against Heartland though Pillars in Kano will be a daunting task with 3SC needing the points to climb up the table while Pillars need to rejuvenate their title charge.

In other matches Sharks need to start putting points on the board but away to Abia Warriors, they will need all the goal scoring magic of Christian Piagbara, the man who saved their bacon against Rangers, in their last match.

After their dismal performance at home to 3SC, Heartland will be hoping for an immediate response under the new management of Kelechi Emeteole as they face a tricky Nasarawa FC side, who sit just three points behind the Naze Millionaires.

Rangers also welcome a new manager in Daniel Amokachi and Ifeanyi Ubah FC to the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium as they continue their upward surge. The Coal City boys are also on a high after getting a semi-final ticket in the Federation Cup as they seek a end to the long 31-year trophyless existence.
