The Nigeria U-17 team, the Golden Eaglets, have qualified for the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup that would take place in Chile.
The Nigerian youngsters secured one of the four tickets allocated to Africa after they beat their Zambian counterparts 3-1 in their final group game at the ongoing CAF Under-17 championships in Niger.
Nigeria skipper, Kelechi Nwakali, got a goal while Victor Osimeh hit a brace.
And even though Zambia skipper, Patson Daka, grabbed Chipolopolo juniors’ consolation, it was not enough to deny Nigeria victory and a top place with seven points in Group A.
Speaking at the post-match conference after his side booked the World Cup ticket, Coach Emmanuel Amuneke said he was quite elated about the feat achieved by his youngsters.
“We thank God for this moment and for this occasion,” Coach Amuneke said. “The most important thing for us was to go to Chile and I’m happy that we have achieved that objective.
“We played against a very good side which has very good players and our players had to be cautious to play a game we wanted and at the end of it, we achieved what we came here for.
“We’re blessed to be one of the teams representing Africa in Chile and we will hope we continue to do well even when we get there.”
Aside Nigeria, Guniea U-17 team has also qualified for the World Cup.
