UEFA Champions League: Mikel dropped by Chelsea

Nigerian midfielder John Mikel Obi

Nigeria’s Mikel Obi did not travel with the rest of the Chelsea squad for Wednesday night’s UEFA Champions League clash against Maribor.

A ‘minor’ knee injury saw Mikel not listed for last weekend’s EPL clash against QPR and has now seen him overlooked for the Maribor game.

Twenty-two Chelsea players travelled on Tuesday to Slovenia and aside Mikel another high profile name missing was French striker Loic Remy.

Remy has missed Chelsea’s last three games with a groin injury he picked up scoring the opener during the 6-0 demolition of Maribor at Stamford Bridge two weeks ago.

Despite Mikel not making the trip to Slovenia, it is believed that he should be fully fit and would have recovered from the minor knock on his knee and could be back for the Liverpool clash this weekend before heading to Abuja to join the Super Eagles camp.
