Blessing Okagbare won her 100m heat in spectacular fashion as she raced to another personal best time at the London Olympics, Friday night.
The Sapele born athlete won her race in a time of 10.93secs to erase her former best time of 10.96 seconds.
Compatriot, Gloria Asunmu also made the semis, finishing in third place in her own heat.
Okagbare’s winning time is the second fastest in the heats thereby
giving hope that she could be on her way to the finals and more importantly the podium.
The semi finals and final races of the women’s 100m event come up Saturday, when the fastest woman in the world will emerge.
It was however a sad day for Damola Osayomi, former African Champion, as her fourth position, with a time of 11.36secs, was not enough for her to qualify for the semi-finals.
Earlier in the day, the trio of Amaechi Morton (women’s 400m hurdles), Omolara Omotosho (men’s 400m hurdles) and Bukola Abogunloko (women’s 400m) also secured places in the semi finals of their respective events.
Team Nigeria is yet to win any medal in London and many are hoping
athletics might save the occasion for Nigeria.
