El-kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri have shot into the lead in the Lagos center of the Federation Cup after the first round of matches played on Monday at the Agege Stadium
The Coach Kelecchi Emeteole tutored side recorded the only goal of the day in the center as they beat Premier League side, Kwara United by a lone goal.
The goal was scored by Thompson Ezekiel to give his team the whole three points at stake.
An excited Coach Emeteole told PREMIUM TIMES after the grueling encounter that he was impressed with the good start by his team as he hopes that they will continue in the same stride in their next match.
“We have been dubbed underdogs and I don’t have a problem with that, my boys are very focused and that was what gave us the day. We hope to continue from where we stopped in our next game,” Emeteole said.
In the second game of the day, Kano Pillars was forced to a 1-1 draw by Crown FC of Ogbomosho.
Rabiu Ali had earlier shot the Pyramid Boys ahead before Crown FC forward; Bode Daniel leveled scores for the Ajilete Boys.
Crown FC chairman, Bello Noah rewarded his players with instant wining cash of N100,000 shortly after the players played a 1-1 draw with highly rated Kano Pillars at the Federation Cup, Lagos centre.
He promised to do more as the team gets good results. Next match is against El-Kanemi on Wednesday by 4pm at the Agege stadium.
In other games, Prime FC pulled a surprise as they defeated Rangers International by a lone goal in their opening game of the Federation Cup group stage at the Ibadan venue.
It was Prime FC’s Tope Akande who gave the Ogbomoso side the victory; he scored after just 10 minutes into the encounter. Dynamite FC and Sharks played 1-1 draw in the other fixture in Ibadan.
Also, defending Champions, Heartland won their first game in the Group phase of the Federation Cup as they defeated Plateau United by a lone goal.
Brendan Ogbu got the only goal in the 86th minute of the thrilling encounter.
With the victory, the Naze Millionaires have shot to the lead in the Port-Harcourt center and are on course to defend the Federation Cup won last year.
Northern rivals, Gombe United and Nasarawa United shared the loss in the second game at the Port-Harcourt center of the Federation Cup as both teams settled for a goalless draw.
