The Nigeria Football Federation on Thursday broke the hearts of some aspiring young footballers as the President of the Federation, Aminu Maigari, announced the country’s withdrawal from the Adidas U-15 Youth Invitational Tournament, Mexico 2012.
Magari said the country is pulling out from the tournament due to some logistic reasons.
“It’s unfortunate that Nigeria will no longer be going to Mexico for the U-15 championships due to some logistic reasons, we hope to still keep the team together for future tournaments,” Maigari told newsmen after the Eagles Thursday’s training session in Calabar.
The National U-15 team camped in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital have been perfecting its tactics and endurance in line with the requirements of a high altitude area like Mexico City, where they were hoping to compete before Thursday’s announcement.
The Coach Danladi Nasidi-led side have in the past weeks been involved in series of friendly matches and were originally billed to depart the shores of the country today 14th of June.
The 10-day Adidas U-15 Youth Championship, which kicks off on 18th and ends on 24th of June, is aimed at bringing eight high-quality Adidas sponsored teams from all Confederations.
Nigeria was chosen from the pool of African teams. The competition will now have seven teams jostling for the top prize; the countries are Spain, Argentina, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, and host, Mexico.
