Eagles midfielder, Christian Obodo, abducted in Warri

Unknown gunmen have reportedly kidnapped former Super Eagles midfielder, Christian Obodo.

Obodo, who plies his trade with Seria B side Leece, returned to the country few weeks ago after a tedious football season in Italy.

“Yes he has been kidnapped,” an unnamed Delta State government official told SuperSport.com.

“The details are still sketchy but I was told he was on his way to church this [Saturday] morning with his car that has registration number ‘Obodo 5.'”

“Apparently his car’s registration may have attracted his kidnappers because he went clubbing last [Friday] night in the same car.”

Popularly referred to as ‘bundle of skills’ owing to his dribbling skills, Obodo had two years ago lost his father who passed away after a brief illness

The Daily Times Nigeria quoted a witness as saying the footballer was snatched from the Zion Ministry Church located on New Layout Road, Effurun by the gunmen.

As of the time of writing this report, his location remained unknown.

Obodo’s abduction is the first suffered by any footballer even though close families of some football stars have been seized in the past.
