Rashidi Yekini's death: Blatter sends condolence letter to NFF

Since last friday’s shocking death of Nigeria’s goal king, Rashidi Yekini, glowing tributes and condolences having be pouring in from across the globe.

The latest is the condolence letter from World’s number one football citizen, FIFA President Joseph Sepp Blatter.

Blatter in his letter to the Nigeria Football Federation on Tuesday extolled the qualities of Yekini who he reckoned had featured in 5 important tournament and scoring great goals.

Blatter praised the gangling Nigerian striker for his World cup goal against Bulgaria which incidentally was Nigeria’s first at the senior World cup.

For him the goal instantly made Yekini one of the legends at the USA’94 World Cup and added that he would sorely be missed.

“On behalf of FIFA and the worldwide family of football, I wish to express our deepest condolences to you, to everyone at the Nigeria Football

Federation and most importantly the family of Rasheed Yekini, his friends and loved ones. Please let them know today that the football community stands by their side” the letter from Blatter read in part.

Yekini 48, was buried in his home town Irra in Offa Kwara state last saturday and the 8-days prayers for the repose of his soul will be held this weekend in the same location.
