Gombe United got the only away draw as action resumed in the second phase of the Nigerian Premier League this weekend.
The Savannah scorpions proved to be a hard nut to crack as they forced their host Kano Pillars to a goalless draw at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.
It was the same stunning version that Gombe United started in the first round as they led the league table for several weeks and posted many records; including the first away win.
The team later caved in to pressure and finished the first round occupying the 8th spot.
However, Bernard Ogbe, coach of Gombe United, said his team had learnt its lessons from the first round and would put in its all to at least get a continental ticket at the end of the season.
Despite the draw, Pillars are still on top of the league table with 33 points but could be overtaken by the likes of Rangers and Dolphins who will be playing on Sunday
Elsewhere, Shooting Stars of Ibadan started their campaign in the second stanza of the league on a winning note has they edged their opponents Kaduna United 2-1.
Goals from Thomas Adesina and Ibrahim Babalola ensured that the Oluyole warriors secured the three points at stake.
In Port Hacourt, Sharks FC swallowed their opponent, Niger Tornadoes, defeating them 2-0 while the last match of the day saw Rising Stars of Akure rose over Enyimba FC; winning 1-0.
