Teams participating in the ongoing Promasidor Para-Soccer Championship were on Saturday displaced from the Indoor Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos, venue of the competition, to allow a wedding reception to hold.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the para-soccer teams were consequently forced to play under the scorching sun.
Bosun Awoniyi, the media consultant of the tournament, told NAN that the teams were displaced from the venue because it was being used for the wedding reception of one of the daughters of an unnamed senior official of the National Institute of Sports (NISports).
Mr. Awoniyi, who did not give the name of the official, said organisers were informed just before the day’s matches kicked off.
He said that arrangements had to be quickly made to prevent the disruption of the tournament.
The coordinator, however, said that playing under the sun could not negatively affect the performance of the players in their semi-final matches.
“The daughter of one of the senior officials of NISports was wedding and they are using the hall so we make another arrangement not to halt the tournament.
“The sun cannot affect their (players) performance because they practised in the sun but the finals will be played in the hall,” Mr. Awoniyi said.
Meanwhile, a total of 27 goals have so far been recorded in the six-aside competition which started on April 5.
NAN reports that eight teams are participating in the 5th edition of the tournament sponsored by producers of Cowbell Milk. Teams featuring in the championship are TC Terrors, Lead United, NAS Warriors, Adamawa United, Plateau United and Nasarawa United, Premium Sports and Kwara United.
