Nigeria Premier League: Rangers overtake Enyimba again

Enugu Rangers are back at the summit of the Nigeria Premier League after recording a 3-2 victory over old rivals, Shooting Stars of Ibadan at the Nnamdi Azikwe stadium on Sunday evening.

Rangers had played second fiddle to staunch rivals Enyimba in the past week but now have a one point advantage since the People’s Elephant were held 1-1 at home by Akwa United.

Victory for Rangers was not a stroll in the pack as they had to contend with a late surge by the Oluyole Warriors who tried to pull at least a draw in Enugu.

Super Eagles invitee, Ofoedu Chikeluba, opened scoring for Rangers in the 27th minute,  while Rasak Adegbite doubled the lead seven minutes later.

Chinedu Sunday scored the third for Rangers in the 86th minute.

Late strikes from 3SC’s Talabi Olumakinde in the 84th and 89th minute caused Rangers some scare but failed to hand Shooting Stars any point.

In other games, Sunshine Stars were forced to a 1-1 draw by visiting Warri Wolves.

The game, which was an early kick-off, was played behind closed doors as the Afonja Warriors are still under punishment.

The other game in Ilorin saw ABS FC extend their unbeaten run to nine matches as the Saraki boys whipped Jigawa Stars 3-0.

With the victory, ABS are now 5th on the log after previously sitting at the bottom of the table.
