Europa League: Bilbao send United out

Modest Spanish team, Athletic Bilbao, Thursday night defeated former European Champions, Manchester United 2-1 in the second leg Round 16 fixture played at the Estadio San Mames.

The spanish team had shockingly won the 1st leg 3-2 at the Old Trafford before completing a double over the once king of Europe. The win thus means Bilbao are through to the quarterfinal stage on a 5-3 aggregate score line.

Bilbao are currently 7th in the Spanish La Liga while United sit on top of the English Premier League; a place they must now hold tight in order to have at least a silverware by the end of the season.

Draws for the quarterfinals and semi final matches of both the Europa League and Champions League will be conducted tomorrow.
