As the national U-17 Women’s team, the Flamingoes get set to face their Zambian counterparts this weekend in Lusaka in a World Cup qualifying match, former Super Falcon coach Eucharia Uche is confident that the Zambians cannot stop Nigeria from making it to Azerbijan 2012.
Euchuria, who prides herself as the only woman to have won the Africa Championship both as a player and coach, maintains the Zambians are no match for Nigeria on a ‘good day’.
“I don’t see how Zambia will stop us from going to the World Cup,” she said.
“Of course, we are aware that the gap between Nigeria and the other African countries is reducing by the day but that notwithstanding, we should be able to overcome the Zambians”
Meanwhile the Zambians on their part are also boasting that they will qualify for the World Cup ahead of Nigeria.
Zambian coach, Beauty Mwamba, said she was happy with the way her team was shaping up in training and that the return of two players, Helen Mubanga and Anita Mulenga, from injuries was a morale booster to the team.
Mwamba said the players were undergoing intensive training to enable the team beat the experienced Nigerian team and qualify for their first ever World Cup appearance later this year in Azerbaijan.
She said although Nigeria might be experienced, her lasses would not be intimidated but instead put up a good game to continue with the winning spirit that the senior men national team initiated at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations finals.
