The disciplinary committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has descended heavily on two Premier League sides for allegedly playing roles in a match fixing scandal.
Big hammer
The committee, which met Wednesday in Abuja handed a N20m fine on Sunshine Stars while Dolphins was handed a N10m fine.
Another big casualty in Wednesday’s ruling was Dolphin’s coach, Stanley Eguma, who was banned from any football matters for five years.
Eguma also doubles as the National U-23 assistant coach.
Referees, Chrisantus Okoro and Duruma CID were each also handed a 5-year ban.
The duo of Devine Benjamin (Sunshine Stars) and Efe Dokubo (Dolphins) were also asked to stay off any football matters in Nigeria for the next five years.
Lucky duo
Mike Idoko team manger for Sunshine as well as his Lobi Stars counterpart Dominic Iorfa were however lucky as they were only given stern warning by the committee
According to the copy of the ruling made available to Premium Times Sports, the committee hinged their decisions on Article 4.5 of the NPL statues.
Lobi Stars had reported Sunshine Stars to the organisers of the League last season after team manger, Iorfa, saw referees that were to officiate their League game in the car of a Sunshine official.
Why Sunshine officials maintained that nothing transpired, Wednesday’s ruling suggests otherwise.
