Nigerian Youth International, Odion Ighalo, gave his La Liga side, Granada, something to cheer as he scored one of the goals that ensured a 2-1 victory for his struggling team in their away game to Real Betis on Sunday.
Ighalo put Granada ahead in the 13th minute with a low shot from the edge of the area before team mate, Carlos Martins added the second for the visitors five minutes before halftime.
The victory thus mean Granada’s new coach, Abel Resino, got off to a winning start as his team also moved out of the Spanish league relegation zone with the 2-1 win.
Real Betis had tried to stage a come back with an improved performance in the 2nd half with substitute Jonathan Pereira making it 2-1 in the 81st mins but that was too little too late for them.
Resino, a former Atletico Madrid coach, took over promoted Granada earlier this week after Fabricio Gonzalez was fired following a three-game losing streak.
Before this game, Granada’s struggling attack had only scored four away goals this season.
Meanwhile, another Nigerian, Ike Uche, was also part of Granada’s victory on Sunday. Uche joined the La Liga newcomers on-loan from Villareal.
