Boko Haram: NPL calls off Pillars, Enyimba league match

The state of insecurity in the city of Kano has forced the Nigeria Premier League to put on hold the week five premier league fixture between Kano Pillars and Enyimba.

The match, which was scheduled to take place at the Sani Abacha stadium in Kano, will now come up at a later date to be announced by the Nigeria Premier League board.

Confirming this development to Premium Times sports in a phone chat, Idris Malikiwa, the spokesperson for Kano pillars, said it would be unwise to go on with the game despite the growing concern of insecurity in the state.

“Having studied the situation in Kano, we wrote the NPL that they should please postpone this match, thank God they were also sensitive to the situation on ground and heeded our plea” he said.

“It’s unfortunate that the game had to be called off. The situation on ground in Kano is responsible for this postponement because the lives of players, officials and fans are important and we and the league body had to take that into consideration here.”

Malikiwa said he hopes the situation will improve very soon and Kano Pillars will start playing their games at home..

Pillars were impressive in their last outing as they forced Premier League new comers Rising Star of Akure to a 1-1 draw in Ijebu-Ode.

The NPL has however stated that other matches will go on as scheduled.
