AFCON 2012: Libya, Zambia play draw

Zambia came back twice to force a 2-2 draw with Libya as action continued Wednesday at the ongoing Orange Africa Cup of Nations tournament jointly hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.

With this result, Zambia only needs to avoid defeat in her last group game against host, Equatorial Guinea, to qualify for the next round.

It is however not the same for the Libyans who still have all the work to do as nothing outside a victory over senegal will be good enough for a quarter final ticket.

Today’s game, played at the water-soaked Estadio de Bata could not start on schedule due to the incessant rain at the venue.

The draw recorded in the match was the first in this tournament as the earlier eight games produced clear winners

Ahmed Osman Saad scored the two goals for Libya while Zambia’s goals were netted by Emmanuel Mayuka and Christopher Katongo.

The match kicked off an hour and a quarter late due to a waterlogged pitch, and in the opening minutes it was clear that a lot of the playing surface was still very sodden and difficult for the teams.

While Both sides could only score two goals apiece they both had further chances to add to the score line but in the end a draw was a fair reflection of the game.

The result however certainly suits Zambia better than Libya.
