The Nigeria U-20 Women’s team have crashed out of the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup ongoing in France.
Goals from Aitana Bonmatí and Patricia Guijarro helped Spain to the semi-final ticket ahead of Nigeria.
The victory recorded by the Spaniards will see them in a semi-final clash with either France or North Korea.
It took just 13 minutes for the Spanish ladies to break the deadlock in Thursday’s tie as Bonmatí expertly curled the ball into the net.
The midfielder started the move as she dropped deep to switch the ball across the pitch for Guijarro, who turned inside on her right to swing a ball towards Bonmatí who fired past a stranded Chiamaka Nnadozie.
Nigeria pressed for parity in the first half, but Spain defended with commendable application and on the stroke of half-time they doubled their lead.
It was Guijarro who compounded the woes of Falconets when she beat the offside trap before scoring from close range.
The Christopher Danjuma managed team moved the ball quicker after the break and they were rewarded with a goal in the 56th minute through Peace Effih.
The Nigerians kept searching for an equaliser deep into injury time, but they were unable to beat the Spanish defence again as the gain for Spain became Nigeria’s pain.
