Reigning Nigerian League champions, Enyimba, have been knocked out of this year’s CAF Champions League following their 1-0 loss to Zamalek in Cairo on Monday night.
The two-time African champions were condemned to win in Cairo if they were to stand any chance of getting through to the semi-finals but a second half goal from the penalty spot was more than enough to see the Egyptians go through at the expense of the Nigeria flag-bearers who have been lethargic all through the group phase of the continent’s biggest club competition.
Basem Morsy scored the all-important goal for Zamalek on Monday to take their points tally after four games to six while Enyimba have zero point from the three games; thus meaning that their last game at home against Mamelodi Sundowns is a dead rubber contest.
