The Golden Eaglets defeated their counterparts from Niger 1-0 in a CAF U17 Championship qualifier played in Abuja on Saturday.
Alagbe Oluwatobiloba scored what turned out to be the only goal of the game inside the first two minutes of the encounter at the Abuja National Stadium.
With the early goal, many had thought that a goals feast was on the cards.
That was however not the case as the Eaglets failed to add to the tally and now face a tricky test in second leg billed for a fortnight in Niamey.
PREMIUM TIMES understands that the Nigerian side were depleted as most of the hitherto first team players failed the MRI test carried out to see that only players within the age bracket play the qualifying match.
Before the MRI trouble, the Coach Manu Garba-handled team were scoring more than one goal in games.
In their build-up to Saturday’s game, the Eaglets secured a 4-0 win in a test game against Super Lions of Suleja in Abuja on July 27.
They also beat P-Sport Academy 3-0 at the NFF\FIFAGoal Project pitch a week earlier in another tune up match.
