The Management of the Ogun State-owned soccer outfit, Gateway United, has sacked the club’s chief coach, Olabode Awakan, with immediate effect.
The sack of Awakan was contained in a statement signed by the media officer of the club, Rotimi Oduniyi on Monday.
Mr. Oduniyi said the coach was sacked due to the club’s poor performance in the first stanza of the ongoing 2014/2015 Nigeria National League season.
In a letter of disengagement, signed by the club’s general manager, Adetunji Onatolu, the management thanked him for his services and wished him success in his future endeavours.
The sacked coach has since been replaced with former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles assistant coach, Samuel Abimbola.
The new coach was a member of the coaching crew of the 2009 class of the Golden Eaglets and at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Columbia in 2011.
He is making his second stint with Gateway United Football Club having coached the club between 2010 and 2011.
