Ghana’s U-20 team recorded a big upset at the ongoing FIFA U20 tournament in New Zealand as they beat six-time champions Argentina 3-2 in their second Group B game in Wellington on Tuesday morning.
The Black Satellites as Ghana U20 team are called had started their campaign at the Youth World Cup with a 1-1 draw against Austria before edging the Argentines in Tuesday’s five-goal thriller.
Goals from Benjamin and Samel Tetteh put the Ghanaians on the ascendancy, before Yaw Yeboah’s penalty seemingly sealed the result.
Though the Argentines through Giovanni Simeone and Emiliano Buendia pulled two goals, it was not enough to deny the West Africans a victory.
Sadly, having drawn their first game , Argentina risk an early exit from a competition they have dominated in the past years.
Tuesday’s defeat is the first in 19 FIFA U-20 World Cup games for Argentina.
In the other Group B tie also played on Tuesday, Austria have also taken a big step towards qualifying for the knockout rounds at New Zealand 2015 with a 2-1 victory over Panama in Wellington.
