Veteran women basketball players on Saturday in Abuja defeated an All Stars selected side 23-15 in a match played in celebration of Nigerian women basketball players.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, in collaboration with the Federation of International Basketball Associations, FIBA, on Saturday celebrated women basketball.
At the end of the match, Zainab Abubakar, the coach of the veterans, praised her players and expressed her delight with the outcome of the game.
“The new generation of female basketball players have a long way to go.
“This game shows that the All Stars players lack experience of the game.
“If young ladies cannot defeat veterans who, even though they are their coaches, had not played actively for many years, I can only wish them the best,” she said.
On her part, Abiola Solaja, coach of the All Stars, however said it was still a good game for her side in spite of the defeat.
“My players did not perform up to my expectation, because they gave too much respect to the Veterans,
“These are young players that are able. They have all it takes to win the game,” she said.
