Nigerian striker, Asisat Oshoala, says she is full of joy after scoring her first official goal for the Liverpool Ladies and also helping the team to their first victory of 2015 on Wednesday night.
Oshoala scored late in the first half and also provided the assist for the second goal as het team cruised to a 2-1 win over the Birmingham Ladies.
Speaking on her club’s official website,(lfc.co.uk) Oshoala confessed that she was amazed with how the fans sang her praise after she scored in Wednesday’s game.
“I feel very happy and excited about the goal and the victory for the team,” she said. “It was a great atmosphere. The support from the fans was extraordinary. It’s very nice for me hearing them singing my name. It’s a crazy atmosphere. I have never seen supporters like this and I have been playing football for quite a long time now.”
Oshoala, at half-time, scored to give the FA Women’s Super League 1 champions a 1-0 lead at half time before setting up Fara Williams for Liverpool’s second, before Aoife Mannion’s late reduced the deficit to end the game at 2-1.
Looking at the journey so far with the Liverpool Ladies, the reigning Africa Woman Player said she is proud to be fulfilling her dream.
“It’s been a difficult start to the season but I believed we would bounce back,” she said. “We showed the spirit here is very high, and we are really giving everything.
“The supporters here are awesome, they are great people. Playing for Liverpool Ladies is a dream come true.”
For Oshoala and her teammates, Wednesday’s win was a perfect revenge, having been dumped out of the Women FA Cup by Birmingham just last weekend.
